Our Process

Our Process

From the Homestead to Your Home

At RockinDachs, the path from whelping box to Homecoming Day is deliberate at every step. This is not a transaction. It is a guided process built around one outcome: a stable, well-prepared companion placed with the right family.

Building the Foundation: How We Select Breeding Dogs

Every RockinDachs prospect starts before they are born. We evaluate all breeding candidates for conformation, temperament, and genetic health — DNA panels through Embark, OFA evaluations, and hands-on structural assessment. We do not breed for color, novelty, or trend. We breed for the integrity of the Miniature Dachshund and the long-term health of our Legacy Lines.

Welcoming a New Litter: Our Whelping Standards

The arrival of a new litter is treated with the seriousness it deserves.

A Calm Environment

Our expectant Fireside Ladies move to the Nursery — a dedicated, quiet space — well before whelping. This is their space, private and calm.

Around-the-Clock Monitoring

We maintain constant vigilance during whelping, with puppy cams in place whenever we must briefly step away.

Biosecurity

Our Nursery operates under a closed-environment biosecurity protocol. Access to young prospects is strictly limited to the RockinDachs care team until the litter is old enough to safely receive visitors.

Hands-On Support

We provide compassionate, experienced support throughout the whelping process — intervening when needed, stepping back when appropriate, always guided by our veterinarian.

The Prospect Journey: Early Development

Bio-Stimulation and Sensory Exposure (Days 3–16)

We perform Intentional Bio-Stimulation and structured Environmental Exposure during the early neurological window. This builds stress tolerance, confidence, and brain development from the first days of life.

Homestead Nurturing

Prospects are raised on our working homestead property under constant, hands-on supervision. The environment is real — open Utah sky, red dirt, and the daily rhythm of a working property. That is exactly the kind of early exposure that builds confidence and adaptability.

Biosecurity Protocols

Physical handling of young prospects is reserved for the RockinDachs care team. Enrolled families are welcome for observation visits after the first vaccination round — no handling of unvaccinated prospects.

Pack Socialization (5 Weeks and Up)

Prospects begin supervised exploration of outdoor spaces and structured interaction with our stable adult dogs. Canine social literacy — real manners, not managed isolation — is part of the foundation we build.

Foundational Training

Crate introduction, litter box habits, and basic routine begin at the Homestead. Prospects do not leave here starting from zero.

The 4-Point Evaluation and Matching

At seven weeks, every prospect receives a professional, hands-on 4-Point Evaluation across four pillars:

• Connection — Desire for human engagement and eye contact

• Compliance — Willingness to follow direction and accept light restraint

• Confidence — Recovery time after environmental startle or new stimulus

• Drive — Primary motivation: Food, Toy, or Praise

Evaluation results — not family preference — determine the match. Personality mismatch is the leading cause of failed placements. We will not participate in one. There is no pick-of-the-litter at RockinDachs.

Enrolled families are matched to prospects based on evaluation scores and lifestyle compatibility. The match is made with care and communicated with full transparency.

The Fire Tiers: Developmental Milestones

Every prospect advances through our Fire Tiers based on demonstrated mastery — not age alone.

• Spark — The Homestead Graduate. Weaning complete, sensory foundation, first vaccinations, FiNano microchip.

• Flicker — The Started Prospect. Name recognition, Sit, leash acceptance, second vaccinations.

• Flame — The Structured Junior. Place command, recall foundation, extended crate, full puppy vaccines excluding Rabies.

• Lantern — The Finished Companion. Full vaccine series including Rabies, emotional regulation, solid obedience, public confidence.

Families may bring their prospect home at any tier. The foundation built here does not disappear — it travels with them.

Health and Documentation

Every RockinDachs prospect leaves with a complete Homecoming Dossier containing their health certificate, vaccination records, FiNano microchip documentation, 4-Point Evaluation scores, Tier Certificate, and 90-Day Socialization Challenge.

Our Lifetime Genetic Health Guarantee is backed by Embark DNA testing on all parent dogs. IVDD is breed-prevalent and is disclosed — honestly — at enrollment, not at placement.

AKC registration is included or available for every prospect.
